We don’t think about what we want or need and as we age, we either think we’re headed towards the end of our life, or we start to light up.

Here’s your host, fortune 100 executive and certified life coach, Shannan Christiansen. Hello, love. Welcome to March.

I know. So fun. This year is flying by, I mean, March. I know ladies, I know it’s gonna be Easter and then it’s gonna be summer and then be talking about Christmas. I know this is how it goes. This is how it goes. I love today’s podcast because I’ve been thinking about this concept a lot and studying it for many months for myself and for all of my Transform bosses in Transform Boss.

We did this workshop at the beginning of the year called Creating Your a hundred Year Life. And you know, I love this concept of creating your life. We are reactive versus creating and being proactive. And so I’ve been doing like so much research for many, maybe even a year actually on this whole concept. So I love, I’ve been waiting to do this podcast because this podcast is about creating your life and on purpose.

We all have a different path. I mean, all of us, and I’m gonna talk in general terms, but I really want you just to take a moment and think about this concept. You know, when we grow up, we take on, you know what our parents or our caregivers, whoever you were raised by, you know what to do,

what to think, our morals, values, what’s acceptable, what’s not. You know, all the things. And you know, many of you, we’ve grown up in different cultures or parts of the country or world and we take on views and ideas and what happens it, it forms our self-concept and our beliefs and our belief system. And this is important because we then made decisions in our teens,

in our early twenties, kind of the path that we were gonna set on. And I know it’s changed, mine has too many times throughout my life, but what happens over time, I think for many women is that we do stop creating our life on purpose. Just things happen to us and we react to it and then we just kind of, right.

We don’t dream, we don’t curate the life that we want. We don’t think about what we want or what we need. You know, I think about our 20 and 25-year-old brains, you know, they’re still being developed and then, you know, by the thirties, we’re kind of in the thick of it, right? I think about my thirties,

you know, I was in the thick of it. I was raising my son, I was working in my mid thirties. I met Paul and then, you know, blending families and all the things, right? And although I was starting to create my dream life, I had just started to like, you know, I’ve always been into self development and therapy and all the things.

So I was, I was really kind of sticking my toe in, I guess. And then, you know, again, the thick of it, right? Work, family, kids, marriages, divorces, you know, all the things. Change of careers. Maybe you go back to work when your kids are certain, I mean so many things.

Maybe if you didn’t have kids, you’re changing careers or partners, right? All the things. And so I think as we start to age, I think something happens in our forties, our fifties, even our sixties, we do one of two things. We either think we’re headed towards the end, the end of our life, can’t wait to retire,

you know, because something magical will happen. I’ve talked to a lot of ladies who’ve retired and I’m not so sure anything magical happens, especially if they can’t find purpose or things or fun things to do or have an interest or create, right? So that’s just a side note, but right, we, we start like thinking about the end versus the second thing.

We start to light up. We start thinking about what we want, what’s important. We start thinking about like, holy moly, I have 20, 30, 40, 50 years left. Like, let’s go. Like, what else is for me out there? What else can I do? How can I contribute? How can I create, what do I even like? Ladies,

what do you even like? Like I think about this so much because I think many ladies, they have no idea what they even like to do. It’s like what their partner likes or their spouse likes or their parents like. They have no idea. Maybe at one time they were doing something they really enjoyed and then life got busy and they stopped doing it and they’re like,

oh yeah, I used to like doing that. Oh, that’s right. I like learning about that. You know, I’m really interested in this. But because someone in their life has kind of poo-pooed on it, I dunno what other words, they’ve kind of like, maybe not, right? And so, look, I have lots of responsibilities and I know that I also,

that same responsibility for myself. I’ve learned that I get to decide what I want to believe, think, feel, and do. I wanna curate the life of my dreams. I want my next chapter to be a chapter that I wrote, not someone else. I wanna curate my own belief system, my own thoughts, what I believe, not what someone else told me what I want.

I love learning and deciding like, do I want to think this? Do I want to believe this? Yeah, I mean, I think it’s the coolest thing I get to create my hundred year life. Look, we’re not promised anything. I’m not promised tomorrow for sure. But I know I love the thought of, oh, if I live to a hundred,

I have 48 more years. What am I gonna do with them? How am I gonna create it? How am I gonna be a part of it? How am I gonna give myself the gifts today so that I can move forward? I tell you, ugh, I just, I love that. To me, it’s a much better thought than I’m going to the end and I’m gonna just sit around and watch.

I dunno, I don’t know, ladies, that’s the decision. That’s the decision that we have. It’s different for everyone who’s listening. We never know when we may leave this earth. So, you know, we can get caught up in today, in the moment and what’s going on right now. But I think it’s so great to just pause, to plan,

to create your life. What do you wanna do? What is your purpose? I have many. I’m not just like one purpose. Oh my gosh, if you’re watching this on YouTube, my dog is in here with me. She really wanted to come in with me today. And she, her purpose is to sleep and eat and be petted pretty much.

And so, but part of my purpose is her. I love her, right? So we have lots of purposes in this world and my family, my career, this business helping women serving like so many different things, right? And I love that. I love that I get to create a life that I can look at and feel proud of. A life that is full of wins and successes and love and kindness and failures and pain and grief,

all of it. And weight is a symptom of you wanting more for you and ready. It’s okay to want more. I know this is gonna hit some of you hard. It is okay to want more in your life. It is okay to want more for yourself. It’s okay. You can give yourself permission that it’s okay. I know that we have a lot of folks that depend on us.

I know that all the things, but it doesn’t have to be an or you or them. It can be an and you don’t have to go and eat, pray, love your life, change it all up, do all the things you can. Start by just asking yourself, what do I want? What’s this next part of my life? What do I want it to be?

How do I wanna feel in it? How do I wanna move through it? How do I wanna fuel my body? What is the work that I wanna do? Where do I wanna heal? What do I wanna learn? What do I like doing? What do I wanna try for you? It is different for everyone. So just ask yourself some questions and then get excited.

So that’s what you do. Just start asking questions. Don’t be fearful again. You don’t have to change your whole life. I love lots of things in my life. I always have. I’ve always had things. I’ve loved you. Ve always had things that you’ve loved. This isn’t an or, this isn’t. Well, my life has been horrible.

No, your life has been 50 50. It’s been all the things now you just get to take more control. You get to like decide on purpose what you want. Hmm, that’s the best. So get to work. I love start just asking yourself some simple questions. Get excited, and then just take step forward to create the life that you want.
